Toxic people always deny their role in the downfall of a relationship and look to blame someone else. After burning bridges, they pretend to be victims of the situation they themselves would have created. They don’t have the capacity to self-reflect and make amends.
Some narcs even think they are good people and when their bad behaviour gets called out finally by someone who can see through their mask, they are unable to accept it. They may blame you for being over sensitive or crazy when you hold them accountable for their snide remarks , rude behaviour, self-centered, manipulative behaviour and passive-aggressive comments.
When you are the target of such covert abuse and you set your boundaries with toxic people – you will be made to feel bad for having the audacity to set boundaries and also made to feel like you are very unforgiving.
Repeated bad behaviour doesn’t need to be forgiven and even if you do forgive , you need not entertain them again in your life. Serious actions have serious consequences..
What makes it worse is that such abuse is targetted only towards certain people and not everyone get to see or understand the covert abuse.
So if you are wondering if narcissists have true empathy- my answer is NO ! They can pretend to have empathy and show breadcrumbs of love and affection just to keep their victims under their control and to ensure no one else sees the real identity. They can pretend to be fake nice and shower you with gifts or attention but it is not true love or empathy.
